The criteria
You are likely to be eligible if:
- You are over 18 and a UK resident
- You own the vehicle you are borrowing against
- The vehicle is completely free of outstanding finance
- It is in good mechanical and cosmetic order, with valid tax, MOT and insurance
- You have a regular income and can comfortably afford the repayments
We also check your personal circumstances to make sure the loan is affordable for you, whatever your vehicle is worth. You can borrow from £1,000 to £50,000, and up to 80% of your vehicle's value, subject to vehicle, credit and affordability checks.
We may not be able to lend if:
- There is still finance outstanding on the vehicle
- You cannot yet show that you own the vehicle, or do not have all the right documents
- You already have a logbook loan on the vehicle: we only allow one at a time
- The repayments would not be affordable for you
Bad credit? Read this.
You may still be able to borrow. Our decision is based on the value of your vehicle and whether you can afford the repayments, not just your credit score. We look at every application on its own merits and understand that not everyone has a perfect credit history.
Eligibility questions
Can I apply if the V5C logbook is not in my name?
Yes, as long as you can show that you are the owner of the vehicle.
Can I apply if I receive benefits?
Yes. As long as you meet the criteria and can comfortably afford the repayments, we will consider your application.
I have just started a new job. Can I still apply?
Yes. If your new income is not yet showing on your bank statements, we will usually ask for a copy of your contract of employment.
Will checking my eligibility affect my credit score?
No. We run a soft credit search with TransUnion, which does not affect your credit score.
What if my application is unsuccessful?
This is usually because the vehicle does not meet our criteria yet, for example you are not yet the owner or do not have all the right documents. You are welcome to apply again when you do. With your permission, we can pass your details to one of our trusted partners, who may be able to offer you an alternative loan.
Borrowing responsibly. We only lend when the repayments are affordable for you. Our service is not advised, so if you are worried about money you can get free, impartial help from MoneyHelper, StepChange or Citizens Advice.
Before you apply.
- Your vehicle registration and approximate mileage
- Your contact and employment details, and your monthly spending
- Access to your online banking, to share 60 days of statements through Open Banking
- Your bank details for the payout and a debit card for your repayments
